A list of local events , not necessarily organised by the
Carms Riders Group can be found on the
forum.
The forum is also a good place
to post a message if you would like a ride buddy or to share
transport to events etc.

The next ride is on ***********. However as I found
organising the last ride too hectic because I live 30 miles
from the forestry, I am asking for helpers in the locality
to do the following jobs.
1. Assist in marking it with me the weekend and weekdays
before (in the evenings after 6)
2. Make lunches for the helpers the night before (this need
not be a rider but can be a mum or husband)
3. Assist with unmarking it after the ride preferably the
day or 2 days
afterwards.
Obviously I always need help with parking marshalling,
manning a checkpoint, time keeper-logging riders out and
back , checking on the checkpoints at intervals and someone
making tea at the venue.
Without this help the rides cannot take place and as a group
we have
sufficient members for this to be spread around. You will
have a fun day.
Please
e-mail us an offer to help if you can spare the time.

Coastal Routes
Petition
There's a new petition on the No10 site for access for
equestrians to be included in all legislation, and the
coastal route.
http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/Equestrianaccess/
The group AGM was very well attended.
Thank you all for your continuing support.
Many thanks to Jillie Gardiner for her
talk on Lost Ways and recovering historical routes.
Here's looking forward to a successful
and productive year.
All offers of help are gratefully
received.
Some questions were raised by members
about some routes they were having problems with. Please
take a look at Current
Projects for more details. Any other riders that
know the routes, please contact us asap.

Llanwrda Bridleways & Green Tracks
This is an URGENT REQUEST for
information from anybody that rides, has ridden, or has any
information about a green track near Llanwrda. The council wants to
downgrade parts to a footpath. We need to know if anybody knows of
any users of this track or has any opinions on whether this has been
used for riding recently or can be ridden.

Cynghordy area
Bridleway 37, 59, & 60
Caroline Fergusson from the Access and Rights of Way
office at
Carmarthenshire County Council has informed us that
works are nearly
complete on the Cynghordy area Bridleway 37/59 and 60-
see pictures below. Once the works are complete,
due in March, it would be nice to arrange a local ride
there just to launch them with some publicity photos.
Please revisit our website to check when it will be.
All details to be posted in due course.
A big thank you to Caroline for her hard work and to the
riders involved in discussing this with her
Also..
I have been asked to submit comments on the new planning
application for the disposal of human waste in the
Pontyberem, Llannon area on the site of an open caste
mine. If anyone has any opinions on this project please
let me know where exactly it is and whether any riders
will be affected by the lorries or the access to
bridleways. I have to report back to the Local Access
Forum in the next 2 weeks.

Pembrokeshire to the Royal Welsh Show!
I am asking for expressions of interest in a cross
Carmarthenshire trail ride proposed for late June or
early July 07.
The circumstances are this . . . .
Pembrokeshire are the host county at the Royal Welsh
Show and they are funding a new building to house the
judges. A plaque will be blessed at the Cathedral in St
Davids and transported across Pembroke and
Carmarthenshire to Builth Wells to take its place on the
building.
Six riders will present the plaque in the main arena on
the first day of the show having undertaken this
journey. Carmarthenshire Riders Group has been asked by
The Pembrokeshire Bridleways Association as part of the
South West Region of the BHS to suggest a route through
Carmarthenshire. This trip is aimed to start on 14th
July. It was suggested that the Carmarthenshire riders
might like to take part in the pre ride, run by the
Pembrokeshire group through Pembrokeshire over 2 days
and then the 3 days through Carmarthenshire a few weeks
later. The Pembrokeshire ride is being done as 2 one
day rides and possibly with a circular route option.
The Carmarthenshire leg could either be done as one day
escorted rides, or a three day trail ride, riding as a
group and staying overnight along the way. Waymarking
it will not be possible as we plan to take in Brechfa,
Chrychan and the Epynt Way.
As I am not sure whether the riders in Carmarthenshire
would like to undertake this project I am asking for
those who would like to consider doing it, to contact me
to show their interest. It will not be a marked route
but a hack from A to B. It may be necessary to team up
with others who have transport to enable vehicles to be
strategically placed at either end of the route. Once I
have expressions of interest I can attempt to plan this
ride logistically, depending on interest.
The cost will be £10 for the ride, no matter how many
days you do, plus a one off £5 for membership of the
Carmarthenshire Riders group for insurance purposes (if
you are not a member of the group already). This equates
to £10 for the first day and nothing for additional days
as a member and an additional £5 for non members
(£15). Camping, B&B and stabling or turnout will be
extra. This has not been quoted for yet, so if anyone
has any contacts for turnout or camping/B&B then we are
open to suggestions. Stopping points will be available
soon, when the full distance has been calculated.
The idea of this pre ride event is to physically check
out the route they are planning to take and to take part
in a ride that will be available to everyone in the
future. This ride will take in only publicly available
routes and will leave a legacy for others to follow. A
piece of history in the making!

The air ambulance raised nearly £1000
and all of it will be donated to the air ambulance. A
big thank you to all attenders, helpers and those who
made donations.. The weather was terrible but the ride
was great, open mountain, forestry and bridleways.
Certainly worth doing next time.

Starting from Abanant Picnic site and will involve the byways, bridleways and UCHs in
Nantyffin, Brechfa, Abergorlech, Llidiad Nennog,
Gwernogle and Rhydcymerau.

There will be short
sections of road but no hard forestry roads. We will be
arranging clearance parties over the winter and mounted
gatherings to checkout the problems and decide how to
rectify them.
The cost will be
£12.50 which includes The Carmarthen Riders Group Annual
Membership for 2007/8 if applications are received by 1st
April. Any applications received after April 1st
will be at the normal membership price of £5 and so will
cost £15 in total.
Any attendees to the clearance parties will get
their next years membership for £1. We want to encourage
the public to get involved in this ride as funds from it
will go towards way marking it, so it can be found and
used by all.
Anyone wanting more info or details on
the ride can contact me at the contact email address or
Sarah Williams, Pandy Cottage,
Ruddlan, Llanybydder, Ceredigion, SA40 9XR 01570 480071.

for the ride. If anyone would like to take an active
role in organising this ride please make contact and we
will consult you in all arrangements.
